This photo gallery and bookstore is the latest venture from Christiane Celle, the uber-chic Frenchwoman who founded Calypso, the fashion and perfume boutique she opened on the island in 1992, and which has since expanded to more than 36 stores internationally. In addition to her brand new gallery in Gustavia, Christiane has a second one in New York's Soho and will soon open another in Montauk. "I decided to open a bookstore and gallery as I wanted to do something different than fashion, but still have a connection," Celle explains. "I'm living with a photographer and I love books about photography—I've been collecting them for years. I'm also interested in finding new talents and helping them promote their work. The first show features surfing photography, and we'll have six shows per year. The shop also carries books about photographers such as Richard Avedon, Peter Beard, Loretta Lux, Martin Schoeller, Patrick Demarchelier (who lives on the island), and Mark Seliger, who does portraits of rocks stars and celebrities."
