Teresa Hale is a trailblazer in the world of complementary health, integrating conventional medicine with complementary therapies to assist people in addressing their health and wellness issues holistically. There are nearly 100 practitioners based at the Hale Clinic in London, a collection of some of Europe's finest. I've visited a good many of these practitioners—here are some great ones I thought you'd like to know about.
Alice Almeida
Crystal Light Bed Therapy
Alice places you on a standard massage table under a track of large clear crystals and you are thinking…hmmm? A few minutes later, after she wraps you in a warm blanket, you feel this amazing sense of calm and relaxation and, after 50 minutes or so, in a lighter state altogether. The colored lights which beam through the crystals (carefully selected and transported from Almeida's native Brazil) work on your Chakra system, balancing energies and harmonizing.

Chitra Ramgoolam
Manual Lymphatic Drainage
Truly a special touch, and a warm and compassionate healer. Many journalists have written about how many inches they've lost from using her manual lymphatic drainage treatment, but I don't think this is what Chitra is about at all. She de-compresses the body to such a state that the inch loss is the body “letting go”, she says. Highly recommended for over-active children as well as adults who just need to be “settled.”

Dirk Budka
Gastrointestinal Diseases, IBS and Digestive Disorders
Dirk has been a practicing bio-molecular nutritionist for almost 30 years. He began his career in Germany (which is far more advanced than other countries in nutritional science), and has been working in the UK for more than 10 years. His methods differ from every other nutritionist I've seen in that he deals with science rather than trendy “alternative” theory. Diagnostics and intense questioning help him to assess the direction to take, but to my mind, Dirk's great intuition is his real steer.

Marguerite Van Boetzelaer
Posture Expert (The Feldenkrais Method)
Marguerite has the most gentle, calming nature and approaches her work as her life's passion. Posture and alignment of the body, she says, are a key contributor to overall health and how one feels every day. She will get you walking correctly, as well as standing and sitting effortlessly in just a few sessions. Amazing when she demonstrates just how much effort we put into our movements…who knew?

Samara Reid
Acupuncture and Ear Coning
Originally from Los Angeles, but a successful London-based practitioner for more than two decades, Samara helps her clients by using traditional Chinese therapies. Ear coning is essentially a detox for the ears—a safe, simple, relaxing and non-invasive way to gently remove excess wax and toxins from inside the ear. She also treats patients with acupuncture targeted specifically to their needs, be it a natural facelift or energy re-balancing. Very kind and maternal.

Doja Purkit
Marma Massage
Doja is a treat. This adorable man rubs your body in directions you didn't know possible with a combination of herbs that not only smell delicious but make your skin super-soft. I left the 45-minute treatment feeling beautifully “worked”, and then slept that night in a way I hadn't for months. Something in what he does…
