EXPERT CONNECT: Casavecchia Volpaia, a Vineyard Villa Rental in Chianti, Italy
Chianti, Tuscany, Italy

An authentic Tuscan villa rental for lovers of nature, wine and privacy! This simple but charming stone farmhouse with 4 bedrooms sits on a hill surrounded by the vineyards and olive groves of Volpaia, one of Chianti's top organic wineries, about 34 miles from Florence. Casavecchia is my favorite among the four lovely villas available for rent on the 914-acre hamlet of Volpaia, which, in addition to vineyards and olive trees, also includes woods, forests, and a small, 12th-century fortified village with a great restaurant and wine shop. Much of the hamlet is now owned and operated by a local family passionate about viniculture and agritourism. Oh, and did I mention that they also operate a fabulous cooking school that often features celebrity chefs?
To best experience all that Volpaia and the Chianti region has to offer, spend a relaxing week or longer at Casavecchia, an ancient house with a stone tower on a section of the estate that's secluded, yet is walking distance from the walled-village. Trust me, the vistas from this villa are breathtaking! A recent renovation means the traditional farmhouse now has almost all the basic modern conveniences you'll need, as long as you don't require Internet access ... it's not available, but that might be a blessing in disguise. The bedrooms have marble ensuite bathrooms, and the master bedroom has a wood burning fireplace. My favorite features are living room's open fireplace—perfect to cozy up to on a chilly evening—and the covered outdoors dining terrace and balcony, also with a fireplace, for festive meals and sunset views. The balcony overlooks the pool, which can be secured from little children by closing three gates.
Casavecchia has a decent sized kitchen, but aspiring chefs might want to try their hand at the BBQ or the original wood-burning oven in the garden. Or you can ask Danica, the fantastic housekeeper, to prepare some local delicacies; she's available five days per week to prepare breakfast, plus your choice of lunch or dinner. Don't miss a cooking class and a wine cellar tour at Volpaia. Tennis courts in the hamlet can be reserved in advance, and estate staffers will happily arrange local tours and excursions for you. Volpaia is truly a historic haven and a stunning Tuscan treasure. NB: The house sleeps 8, but up to 2 more guests can be accomodated upon request and for an additional fee.
SPECIAL OFFER: Enjoy a complimentary cooking lesson at the owner's renowned cooking school plus lunch or dinner.
From €610 to €1,026 per night (or from €4,720 to €7,182 per week).
