A friend of mine was asked to leave a seemingly-casual restaurant on New York's Upper East Side after she and a gal pal parked themselves, along with my friend's baby in a stroller, in the back garden for lunch. The reason? The host told them that strollers (or "prams" as we say in London) were not allowed—so he turned away their business even though the restaurant was almost empty! (No wonder that place is now closed). To prevent this from ever happening to you, I've tapped some of my Insiders for stroller-friendly eateries in eight top cities. I'd also love to hear more recommendations from other parents with little ones, so please comment at the end of this file to share your favorite stroller-friendly spots ...
Sweetie Pie Restaurant
West Village, New York

This colorful arrival in the West Village gives new meaning to "yummy mummies." The decor is Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory meets the Mad Hatter's tea party meets baroque Parisian bistro. "Sweetiepie is the quintessential ice cream parlor restaurant for kids and adults alike," says Rhiannon Kubicka, director of the Bespoke art gallery in Chelsea, and a new yummy mummy herself. "Kids are welcomed and families are celebrated at this romantic and fun venue featuring classic items such as spaghetti and ice cream sundaes. It's great for brunch, afternoon lunch or birthday parties." The menu includes some healthier items, such as salads, but if Veruca Salt, the bratty girl in Willy Wonka, were to visit, no doubt she'd demand the Sweetie Pig, a massive goblet filled with eighteen scoops of ice cream and all sorts of decadent toppings—all for a mere $75! In the evenings, grown-ups can come back and enjoy the bar's eclectic drinks. Absinthe champagne cocktail anyone? NB: Also great for bachelorette parties, bridal showers and girl's nights out; try to book the table for six in the giant birdcage.

Byron
Kensington, London

"Byron is my favorite lunchtime spot with my son," says savvy London mommy
Shona Hampel. "It's my preferred kid-friendly spot, along with with
Julie's in Notting Hill, but everyone already knows about Julie's. Byron is great for me because they make the most delicious hamburgers in London—so good in fact, that I'm now incapable of eating a burger anywhere else, as it will inevitably fall far short. It's also great for Arthur, my one-year-old, as they have comfy high-chairs, lots of space for Bugaboos, and a delicious kids' menu. Aside from the classic cheeseburger, my favorite menu item is the corn-fed chicken fillet with tomato mayo and baby spinach, and don't miss the very Moorish courgette fries. Byron is located next to Holland Park, so we can work up our appetite beforehand by playing on the swings and visiting the peacocks."

Mi Cocina
Highland Park Village, Dallas, Texas

"Mi Cocina is always a Dallas favorite for something casual," says entertaining expert and young mother Kimberly Schlegel Whitman. "There are locations all over town but my husband and I frequent the Highland Park Village location for its added charm. Mi Cocina is very family friendly for lunch or early dinner. We love to take our baby boy for a walk around the Village—the oldest outdoor shopping center in the world!—and then mosey into Mi Cocina for a bite of Tex-Mex and ONE of their famous Mambo Taxi Margaritas. Kids love the big ceiling fans and bright blue light fixtures. They have tons of high chairs and boosters and a great kids' menu. My son, J.R., loves the quesadillas, and they always give him a plastic cup with a lid and straw—thank goodness for those!" Yes, indeed ...

Suji's
Minato-Ku, Tokyo, Japan

The congested streets of Tokyo are not stroller-friendly, and it's worse for expat parents who have trouble finding their way around to begin with. So when
Dr. Lien Do Hogan, a cardiologist and mother of two boys, recently moved there from New York due to her husband's job transfer, she was delighted to discover a spacious eatery that provides a taste of home. "Suji's is a brunch spot that's very child-friendly, and the decor is inspired by NYC, so you feel like you're in a Chelsea diner," says Lien. "They make great omelettes, the kids color away and the staff love kids—although I do have to say that their charging $7 for a kids' apple juice irks me a little. Lots of expats frequent Suji's as they have menus in English." Suji's recently opened this Tokyo outpost following the huge success of the original restaurant in Seoul, Korea, which was opened by Suji Park to meet her cravings for classic brunch food after she moved back home from New York. Go there for your fix of bagels, pancakes, eggs Benedict and New York cheesecake!

Sonsie
Boston, Massachusetts

"It's not obvious that Sonsie would work well for children and strollers, as it's a real restaurant, not a chain or a kid focused place," explains Janet Kraus, CEO of Spire and a mother of twin girls, on why she chose to share it with me as her Insider pick for Boston. Located on the chic shopping mecca of Newbury Street, the elegant bistro serves international fare as well as pizzas and foccaccia baked in its brick oven. "It's great if you're in the city on a weekend with your hubby doing some shopping with kids in a stroller along Newbury, at Copley Place or Prudential Mall, and want to catch a nice 'grown-up' bite of food while also including the kids. We went in the summer, when the restaurant's floor-to-ceiling French windows open onto the street and let in a nice breeze. The staff were very attentive and helpful. There's no kids menu per se, but we found things on the menu the girls could munch on." NB: If you're looking to host an adults-only private dinner party in Boston, consider booking Sonsie's new wine cellar room.

John's Place
Lincoln Park, Chicago

Windy City parents love taking their budding broods to John's Place. "Kids get crayons and paper place mats, their drinks come in plastic cups with tops and straws, there's ample room for strollers, and high-chairs and booster seats are plentiful," says Heidi Stevens, who writes about family and parenting topics for the Chicago Tribune. "The environs are cozy—wood floors, exposed brick walls, local art on the walls—but casual and boisterous enough that no one bats an eye at a chatty or fussy child. The food is delicious, with the added bonus of being largely organic and health-conscious. Best of all, you can follow up your meal with a treat at Sweet Mandy B's two doors down, an adorable bakery that specializes in cupcakes and other homemade goodies. Kids love to sit on the swivel chairs at the bar and let their legs swing while they get their sugar fix." Heidi's friend Danielle Lutz, a fashion stylist and another one of our Insiders, says grown-ups without kids frequent John's too: "It's totally hip to go to there with your girlfriends, or with your boyfriend on a date—it's a must for casual home-cooked food. I love their simple turkey burger and sweet potato fries."

North Bondi Italian Food
Sydney, Australia

They don't take reservations at this casual, family-friendly, modern Italian restaurant overlooking Sydney's Bondi Beach, so get there early on weekends or be prepared for a bit of a wait. "The most enticing aspect of North Bondi Italian is that it's a chic, funky grown-up restaurant that not only caters to but also encourages children," says local mother Michelle Walsh, a former model-turned-TV presenter-turned-fashion entrepreneur and founder of Mrs. Walsh. "There's plenty of room to park a large pram at the end of the table, and there are high-chairs available for slightly older children. The balcony is divine, with plenty of room for kids to move around while enjoying the iconic view of Bondi Beach. Menu faves with my kids are crab spaghetti, Parmesan encrusted flathead fillets, and of course the ice-cream with chocolate sauce. My family and I are permanent fixtures there for Sunday lunch as it's without doubt our favorite."

EVOO Market & Bistro
Naples, Florida

"Part bistro and part gourmet market, this hidden gem is relatively new on the scene in Naples," says Insider
Carol Dill, who herself is a relatively recent arrival in the sunny South Florida city. "I'm always on the lookout for nice, kid-friendly restaurants to take my daughters to when they visit with my adorable granddaughters. EVOO's young owners, Chef Brian Martin and his wife, have a little boy, so although their place is very upscale, they've made it incredibly warm and friendly to families as well, including providing crayons so little ones can draw on the paper table cloths. The service is very personal, and the food is delicious and fresh; try my favorite, the Pappardelle Bolognese. If you're dining at home or are planning a picnic on the beach, simply stop by EVOO's market for fabulous prepared meals to go, as well as hard-to-find ingredients."

here's my proposal for Dublin's most child friendly restaurant:
Itsa4, Sandymount Village.
yes, its an odd name, but this neighborhood favourite attracts parent-child combos from much further afield thanks to its modern, family-friendly approach. Interiors are stylish, pared-back luxe, including two cute little Louis XV chairs, with space outback for any buggy overflow. Try to bag one of the four spacious booths for plenty of sprawl room. Staff will present your children with paper and a good selection of colouring pens (that actually work). Menus are the perfect meeting place between the childhood must-haves and parental scruples. We're talking burgers, chicken and chips, ham-and-cheese toasties, but all organic, free-range, genuinely homemade, and very reasonably priced. So popular is the menu that owners Domin and Peaches Kemp had to get tough about restricting it to kids. Parents meanwhile can tuck into a fantastic bloody Mary, followed by well-executed brunch classics, such as eggs Benedict (with free range eggs and Irish ham), eggs Florentine, or the Itsa fry.
Open for dinner too.

These follwing places are child friendly places in Paris:
1. Apollo, in the 14th
It offers on Sundays entertainment for kids while the parents have a nice brunch on the tarrasse..
2. L'Entrepot, as well in the 14th
It is nice for kids as well as they have a back terrasse and a superbe buffet which is very appealing to kids. Again a very good place to go to on a Saturday or Sunday.
Ciao
