"Owner Allison MacCullough is a brilliant curator, and the displays are seriously irresistible. Plus they're willing to gossip about celebrities who have come in to shop for their kids. Love that!"

Rachel Riley

Upper East Side
A recent arrival on Madison Avenue via London. Rachel Riley was raised by a dressmaker in the bucolic Loire Valley, so there's a timeless, rural look to her designs for little girls and a faithful observance of old-fashoined ways of clothesmaking. Frocks can be whimsical or refined, often in creamy pastel colors, or patterns of flowers or fruit, and her boys collection has a preppy, proper look designed with rough-and-tumble play in mind. Riley cuts her own patterns and hand stitches samples in her attic workshop. She has three stores—two in London and one on Madison Avenue. Her custom service is popular with brides seeking special flower girls dresses and suits for ring bearers and pageboys. Riley also crafts dainty slippers in a traditional style in what is presumably France's last hand-made slipper factory. Ships globally.

Bonpoint

Upper East Side & West Village

Stylish Manhattan moms are regulars at Bonpoint, which has two locations on the Upper East Side, and one in the West Village. "Gorgeous, French clothing in the small West Village store makes shopping for children's clothing even more fun!," says Rhiannon Kubicka, director of Chelsea's Bespoke contemporary art gallery. An uptown devotee is Lisa Blau, a new mom and editor of VitalJuice.com. "I love Bonpoint—it's sort of my Marni for kids," she explains. "The key is to pick a few essential pieces and then mix them with more unique things so your child doesn't look like every other kid on the Upper East Side."
