200 year-old Cheese

paxtonandwhitfield.jpgPaxton & Whitfield
London, Bath, Birmingham, UK

Had former wine merchant, Arthur Cunynghame, not bought this venerable cheese shop when it was in financial difficulties a few years ago, 203 years of tradition might have been lost forever. This marvelously old-fashioned shop has an array of the best cheeses that would make any mouse suspect a trap! Nigella shops here, Churchill frequented - you can order online.

Tea fit for a Queen

tea.jpgThe Tea Palace
Notting Hill (W11) London, UK

If you “fancy” tea and are looking to get excited about a tea specialist… look no further. The owners are afficionados who have sourced 150+ teas and infusions from all over the world to make your life more, teasome. Gorgeous, unique and regal packaging make for a great gift or kitchen accessory for those who are little impressed with Hediard or Marriage Freres! This is the new chic and quality unsurpassed elsewhere. I personally love the whole jasmine blossoms that expand in water before your eyes (kids ADORE this) and the all glass tea pot and burner. Tres chic, tres sain. Skip starbucks and hop over to Westbourne Grove. Breakfast, lunch and brunch. Order online. White Peony is dreamy.

Simply Irresistible Italian

PasticceriaMarchesi.gifPasticceria Marchesi
Via Santa Maria alla Porta 11a
Milan, Italy

The pastries served here are yummilicious - even Giorgi Armani can be found quering up for his favourite Panettone. (he just doesn’t eat the rest of the day) A Milan institution since 1824, with its tasselled window-shades and traditional decor, it is the perfect place to linger over an afternoon - into the evening!

Foodie File: Paris

cheese.jpgBoutique Michel Cluizel, 1°
Pristine little corner shop that deserves its fame. Cluizel’s base chocolate is a blend from nine different sources and his repertoire includes the vanilla-drenched Bahia, the basil-tinged San Yago, and many more yummy concotions…

Patisserie Gerard Mulot, 6°
Have a light lunch and head here in St Germain… you’ll thank me. Possibly the best macaroons in Paris. Think: perfectly crisp on the outside, heavenly creamy on the inside. So many flavors, so many colours, too little stomach space… If Marie Antoinette lived in the 21st century she would definitely eat her cake here. Truly special.

Pierre Herme, 6°

Le Palais des Thes
Fresh, high-quality, fair-trade, enviromentaly sustainable tea. Tea is sourced from small tea estates throughout the world: regular visits to the plantation sites enable control of all possible aspects in the production of their teas and the discovery of rare and wonderful crops. They were one of the first in this hot area - and still one of the best I think!

Androuet
This rather special! cheese merchant was founded in 1909 and is renowned amongst cheese enthusiasts around the world. Cheeses are exclusively made from raw milk using traditional methods. Most of the cheeses are from France but a selection can be found from England, Spain, Belgium, and Greece. Staff are reassuringly informed and passionate.

Petrossian, 7°
A classic I have to include. The Petrossian brothers, Melkoum and Mouchegh, pioneered the introduction of caviar to the West in the 1920’s and have retained their position as the largest and best-known importer to France and America ever since. The company is still in the family and the caviar is still to-die-for. Also check out their smoked salmon and specialty vodkas.
