One of my trusted Insiders has stayed at The Aerie Resort & Spa and reports back: "The location and views are unbeatable. It’s perched on a beautiful mountainside, near Victoria in British Columbia, and has spectacular views of the ocean, islands and mountains. We stayed 6 nights and were given a complimentary upgrade to Villa Cielo, the newest of the resort’s three accommodations buildings, and it is really great. The rooms are spacious, there’s a sink-into tub with panoramic views, large open terraces, and it comes with a personal butler, although that was not a highlight.

"Two areas The Aerie needs to improve on are service and breakfast offerings: while the staff tried hard, their lack of training is clear. Examples: we were brought the wrong wine, not asked to taste it, and the glasses were dirty; we also asked for info on boats for rental, but it was never delivered to our villa. The worst was the butler service in the villa: he didn’t clean or tidy up anything properly, and addressed us as "you guys" which seemed inappropriate. The breakfast had a very limited selection for a Relais & Chateaux property; the cappuccino we ordered was undrinkable and we switched to tea! The a la carte breakfast dishes were good, especially the eggs benedict with crab meat, but the lounge meals were quite disappointing. We didn’t dine in the main restaurant, although that seems to have a good reputation."
