Friends of mine who have stayed here say Don Arcangelo all’Olmo is one of the best villas in Sicily … an enchanting private home set in a former vineyard with fabulous views of the sea and Mount Etna. The villa is actually two buildings, the main house plus another next to it, with 8-12 bedrooms and room for up to 24 guests … perfect for a large family group or friends. The villa is owned by an aristocratic Sicilian family and is fully serviced by their staff … a cook, waiters, maids, gardeners. My Insiders say the food is also outstanding, traditional family recipes handed down the generations and given new contemporary twists. Attention to detail is everywhere: the rooms are spotlessly clean and beautifully furnished with antiques and Sicilian artworks along with modern amenities such as satellite TV, DVD, stereo and Wi-fi. The staff is highly trained and anticipates every need. The outside living areas are the star attraction … several shaded terraces for al fresco dining and relaxing, a large and beautiful heated swimming pool with a paved terrace, and a very well-maintained garden with views to a citrus grove, the sea and the vast expanse of Mount Etna. Activities include cookery classes, cultural tours and swimming; there are several fine Sicilian restaurants within easy driving distance, and an 18-hole golf course nearby. Some friends spent last Christmas there with family and children, and said it was perfect. Prices from €17,330 (about $24,570) per week.
