Description:

After staying here two nights, I realized I’d made a mistake and should have stayed a week! One of my favorite hotels anywhere in the world, the Aurelio has it all for a ski resort—except two things. While the food is excellent quality, the menu is far too contrived for what most people like in this setting (breakfast couldn’t be better though) and the outdoor terrace, one of the best situated in Lech, needs warming up in style and accouterments.

This new hotel on the western slope of Lech, goes above and beyond satisfying every other need, whim, comfort and delight you can imagine. The twin buildings hold only 19 individually designed, wood-paneled rooms, all with a balcony and view of the mountainside to spy skiers passing by. The furnishings, overall design and "objets" are for everyone, cozy, elegant, stylish and timeless—gorgeously inviting. I nearly figured out a way to suitcase one of the many Tim Hall paintings hanging throughout …! The impressive spa, sublime fitness center, 23 meter indoor pool, saunas and plunge pools (of various temperatures), are gorgeous in design and perfect in function. I loved reading and lap-topping (WiFi throughout the hotel works impeccably) in the chic and comfortable Licca Lounge, while in front of the roaring fireplace, and gazing at the skiers—mesmerizing.  Eat breakfast on the sunny terrace, have a drink after dinner out in their bar and make plenty of time for the spa/pool. The high staff–to–guest ratio is felt and appreciated, each staff member is more charming and professional than the next. Their GM, Axel Pfefferkorn, runs a tight yet friendly ship. This is the place to stay in Lech (but not with kids, in my opinion choose Hotel Arlberg); expensive, but worth it.
