Restaurant File: Lech, Zurs & Zug, Austria
Classic Tyrolean menus, delicious fondue, and haute cuisine in the Austrian Alps
I mixed my personal dining experiences in Lech, Zurs and Zug with the recommendations from both a London–based Austrian Insider, Oliver Takas, and the General Manager of the Hotel Aurelio in Lech, Axel Pfefferkorn. Enjoy!
Bentleys Stube
Lech
One of the most handsome, sleek/classic style dining rooms in this area with food that is memorable, to say the least. The chef focuses on light versions of classics, where every bite is perfect. As nice for a tête à tête as it is for a small group. Do save your appetite for desert … oh my.

Alter Goldener Berg
Lech
Rise above the action in Lech with the cable railway … this is an all–time favorite. Fondue of all types and an impressive cellar of 350 different wines! 500 years of history make it a must go. Request the table for 4–6 in front of the roaring fies.

Aelpele
Lech
The cozy Aelpele is situated in the charming small Zug valley. Take a snow mobile or a horse drawn sleigh ride to reach this romantic place because … there are no streets. Local dishes and fondue specialties are done to perfection with the owners, Manuela & Stefan Wolf, close at hand.

Fux
Lech
One house, two restaurants! Nothing cheesy about it. The owner, Mr. Strolz (of the big Lech family) spoils you for choice and a very unique menu. East meets West in the "Euro-Asian" restaurant and all kinds of steaks are on order in the "Steakhouse." Their big focus on wine? A selection of more than 2600 different wines earned them the 2008 Falstaff Award as "4th best wine list in Austria." Truly delicious.

Hus Nr. 8
"Hus" or tiny house, is just that! Austrian cuisine, nice and cozy, with good, basic and hearty food. The space has not changed in hundreds of years, including doorways built for what today would be children's heights. Cute.

Where to lunch on-piste & in town
The best options are Palmen Alpe for its fun scene with good pizzas & basics to warm you up. In Oberlech, Montana and Sonnen burg both have nice big terraces plus great strudel! And Rudalp for nice music, warming food and hot cocoa. In Lech town, we enjoyed Schneggarei for crispy wood fire pizzas and a very satisfying “health” salad. For something a bit less casual, the Hotel Gasthof Post is the most traditional and "exclusive" in town and the Hotel Der Berghof behind the Stolz store is one of the prettiest lounge/lunch rooms in Lech—great for cozying up to the fire with a book. Don’t miss their ricotta cheesecake! NB: The lunch menu at the Kristiania and Aurelio hotels is stuffy and over–thought. But for those who like chi–chi cuisine, the quality is excellent.
Flexenhaeusl
Only meat fondue, very cozy and small with comfy furnishings and all the right local touches. Delicious menu. A must in Zurs—a 5 minute drive from Lech center.
