Rome’s Best Beauty Experts, Salons & Spas

Subtitle: Facials, massage, fitness, hair styling, signature treatments and more

If there’s one eternal truth in the Eternal City, it’s that Italians know how to look good! Whether it’s an A-list facial or a perfect styling from a top hairdresser, here are my favorites in Rome for spas, salons, wellness centers and beauty experts to help you get gorgeous.

Hotel Spa: Wellness Centre at the Exedra

Address:

Exedra Hotel

47 Piazza della Repubblica

Rome

Italy

Neighborhood:

Contact Information:

Phone: +39 06 489 381

Web Site: www.boscolohotels.com

Geography:
Description:
On the fourth floor of the elegant Exedra hotel, overlooking the Piazza della Republica, you’ll find one of the top spas in Rome. Expect soothing lights and five-star facilities, including four treatment rooms, wet and dry saunas and a steam room. In addition to a menu of massages, facials, body scrubs and chromotherapy, the spa has a full-service hair and beauty salon. Try the signature chocolate massage, making you almost good enough to eat… There’s also a fitness center and the only outdoor rooftop pool in the city, open in warmer months and a great place to chill out with a glass of bubbly from the hotel’s champagne bar. If you just can’t bear to leave, book one of Exedra’s 18 suites—each has a mosaic tiled private hammam and hydro-massage tub. To prove that a good spa is the mark of a great civilization, check out how it all used to be done by visiting the hotel’s ground level glass floors exposing the ancient Diocletian Baths below, built between 298 and 306 BC.

Hotel Gym: L’Oasi Fitness Center at the Rose Garden Palace

Address:

Rose Garden Palace

19 Via Boncompagni

Rome

Italy

Neighborhood:

Contact Information:

Web Site: www.rosegardenpalace.com

E-mail: info@rosegardenpalace.com

Geography:
Description:
Housed in the heart of Rome at the charming Rose Garden Palace hotel, this is a veritable temple for beautiful bodies. Aptly named an oasis, L’Oasi is a place to rest body and mind after a hectic day of exploring the Eternal City. It’s more of a fitness center, so true spa devotees might be a little disappointed by the lack of treatments; only massages are available. However, the gym is full of the latest Technogym equipment, a must if you’re feeling the effect of all those Italian carbs. Marble and sleek furniture adorn the interiors, and when you’re done you can soothe any aches and pains in the sauna, hot tub or plunge pool.

Hotel Spa: Paradise Spa at the Aleph

Address:

Hotel Aleph

15 Via di San Basilio

Web Site: www.boscolohotels.com

E-mail: reservation@aleph.boscolo.com

Geography:
Description:
You’ll feel like a million dollars after a session in this former bank vault turned spa, in the secluded basement of the super-stylish Aleph hotel. The compact space has a sauna, Turkish bath, thermal pool and a tiny gym. Shiatsu, Ayurvedic and deep-tissue massages are on offer, and sybarites will love the melted chocolate massage, honey body scrub and vanilla beauty treatments. If you want to freshen-up before exiting through the throngs of sunglass-clad fashionistas who frequent the hotel, hit the beauty salon, where in true Italian style the services cater as much to the guys as the girls.

Sergio’s been cutting hair for the most glamorous Romans since before the Vogue Italia cover that made him famous back in 1966. Simply one of the best hairdressers in town, he comes highly recommended by Carla Fendi of the famous Fendi sisters. Best to book early, for obvious reasons if you’ve ever seen his work. He also has a salon in New York if you get hooked.

Geography:

Every New Yorker knows that good nails are an essential accesory, but ubiquitous walk-in nail salons are lacking in Europe. Thankfully, Rome has two locations of Gamax Nailbar, an American style nail salon offering all manner of pedicures, manicures, extensions, gel fills and oil and parrafin treatments for pretty hands and feet. (They even do "nail art," but that’s not quite our style, and likely not yours!). The large salon can serve as the setting for a bachelorette party or other girly get-togethers with cocktails, snacks and catering. Not limited to just nails, Gamax also does facials, body peels, toning and anti-cellulite wraps, massages, waxing, and make-up application for special occasions.
