Talk about a cliffhanger! This hotel is not so much built as sculpted into the cliffs that overlook the bay of Positano and the Amalfi coast. It’s long been a hotspot for celebrities and royalty, most likely because the paparazzi can’t be bothered to navigate the long, winding coastal road on which its discrete entrance sits. Each of the 60 rooms has a terrace perfect for gazing at the surrounding coastlines and lush, fragrant gardens. (If Juliet had stepped onto one, she may not have bothered shouting out to her Romeo.) The rooms’ ornate furniture amid otherwise minimalistic design suggests Renaissance aristocracy on a tropical island bender. That sensibility is also evident in the exquisite lobby, where lush, hanging greenery adorns the sweeping arches, adding a natural accent to the elegant white furnishings. From there you can stroll out to the hotel’s tennis court (also built into the cliffs) or down to its private beach. There are orange groves and gardens galore, and the bounty is used in the dishes prepared at the Michelin-starred restaurant. Like each guest room, the dining room has its own terrace for an enchanting candle-and-moonlit dinner. Believe the hype. Room rates from €420. |
