This lakeside hotel has the best of both worlds, with its own private beach and yachting marina yet only a stone’s throw from the bustling piazza of Ascona, a lovely resort town in the Italian speaking region of Southern Switzerland. Renowned Swiss designer Carlo Rampazzi has transformed the 82 guestrooms into contemporary gems. He’s not one to stray away from color, so don’t be surprised if your room turns out to be a bright yellow and red combination. Whatever its color, make sure to get a room with a lake view, but avoid the back rooms, as the property faces an unsightly farm. You can choose to dine in any of the three restaurants and bars, but for truly fine fare try La Brezza, known for its great international cuisine with a French twist. There are plenty of programs available to keep your kids and teens out of your hair while you kick back and relax. Full beauty and fitness amenities are on site, but with three nearby golf courses, a watersports school and hiking available to you, there’s a good chance you won’t be needing them. Great find—superb setting.
