This fabulous city hotel, in the center of BA’s most exclusive neighborhood, Recoleta, has a terrific history but don’t for a minute think stuffy interiors and outdated furnishings. Millions of dollars have been spent on restoring this grande dame’s sense of style, and it shows; at least Sophia Loren, Oscar de la Renta and the King of Spain, who have all stayed here, think so. The 210 guest rooms and suites vary in size, but all seamlessly combine Louis XVI elegance and opulence with hi-tech entertainment centres, WiFi and other modern conveniences. With floral fabrics, antique furniture and museum-quality artworks—fans of minimalism should steer clear. Both refined and relaxed—I loved how the hotel welcomed my friend Federica’s children with teddies and toys to keep them amused. La Bourgogne is a magnet for BA’s beau monde and also delivers some of the best French cuisine in the city. With all this high style, you’ll want to look your best, so head for the spa and fitness center offering an extensive menu of La Prairie treatments, cutting-edge workouts and unusual hydrotherapy features.
