Stylish & Eco-Friendly Designer Clothing

These days, eco-friendly clothing is not only in fashion, but some pieces are also truly fashionable! Check out the designs from these forward-thinking labels:

Linda Loudermilk

Los Angeles-based designer Linda Loudermilk produces fashions branded with her trademarked "luxury eco" stamp of approval. She bills her business as “an emergency survival plan, fueled by design” and uses only sustainable fabrics such as bamboo, soy, organic cotton and SeaCell (a fabric made from wood pulp and seaweed). She seems as inspired by Mother Earth as she is by iconic style houses. Loudermilk’s eccentric styles—suits, shifts, denim—blend haute couture with punk rock and practicality. A Shakespeare scholar, a sculptor and the granddaughter of a couturier, Loudermilk makes sophisticated and original designs that manage to combine sustainability with the fleeting nature of high fashion. She has a showroom in Brooklyn and her clothes are available at many stores throughout the US and in London, including Harrods.

Edun

Bono, arguably the most famous socially conscious superstar, founded this clothing company in 2005 with his wife, designer Ali Hewson. The mission? To merge activism and aesthetics. The company has all its stylish clothing produced under strict ethical conditions in factories in Peru, India, Kenya, Madagascar and elsewhere. Their work is guided by the socially responsible credo that training individuals in marketable skills will foster sustainable communities and economic growth faster than giving charity. Edun clothing is often made with organic fabrics and raw materials, typically from the same village where the clothing is crafted, an operation they call “grow to sew.” Buy their products online or try on their threads in various high-end boutiques in the US, UK, Ireland, Russia, Austria, Italy and Taiwan.

Arabella Miller Limited

Arabella Miller set a new standard when the small husband-and-wife-owned company became the first boutique kids' clothing producer to be certified organic by the UK’s Soil Association. From the cotton used to make their baby and children’s t-shirts and romper suits to the ink used to print the puppies, bunnies, ladybugs and other adorable, bright designs, all materials are free from impurities. The owners keep a careful watch over the facilities that produce their clothing, making sure that every step is done in accordance with the Fairway Foundation. A portion of their profits go towards One Per Cent for the Planet, a global alliance.
