We love the name of this clothing boutique—it’s a sly way of getting you to think green. But fear not you stylish naysayers—"fashion" and "eco-friendly" aren’t always mutually exclusive, and there’s no whiff of patchouli to be detected at Envi, a newcomer on Boston’s upscale Newbury Street. The shop, which also sells online, is run by two young Tufts graduates who’ve made it their mission to curate a wide array of designer clothing and accessories made with sustainable materials and produced according to fair labor standards. Labels include nouveau icons of eco-conscious fashion, such as Linda Loudermilk, Stewart and Brown and C&C California. You’ll find feminine dresses, tailored jackets and flouncy tops, many of them in fabrics derived from bamboo pulp, soy or organic cotton, as well as tencel or modal—both materials produced from wood pulp. Envi also stocks well-crafted shoes. Even the hangers are made of recycled cardboard. |
