| Description:
As the name suggests, this fabulously romantic restaurant is housed in a 16th-century olive press, at La Residencia hotel. In warmer months, I always request a table on the exquisite terrace where candelabras and massive oak trees set the tone for a special dinner. Try the tasting menu (€95) for innovative fare such as poached hake with scallop soufflé and consommé of lobster and tarragon or pigeon with mixed lentils and passionfruit. Chef Guillermo Méndez taps his Mallorcan culinary roots but boldly jazzes up dishes with foie gras, caviar and other epicurean ingredients from around the world. There’s live music on selected nights. Plan ahead and you can have the sounds of the Steinway serve as a soundtrack to your meal.

| Description:
Our family goes to this cliffside jewel every year, typically for a special occasion. The views are breathtaking, the food is swoon-worthy, albeit fussy. Couples … be sure to request the table front and center on the terrace. It doesn’t get any more romantic—unless you have a personal violinist in tow. The talented chefs work closely with local farmers and fishermen, a partnership that’s evident in the fresh flavors in dishes like truffle boullion and foie gras ravioli and roasted suckling pig dressed in caramelized terrine or tropical fruits. The fish of the day with artichokes and sweet lemon sauce is a standout. The staff can be a bit uptight, but it’s not worth getting too hung up on it. Go for dinner in the summer because the afternoon sun tends to be too hot for lunch. Take note, it’s only open Wednesday through Sunday.

| Description:
When in Mallorca, do as the Spanish royals do. Royal types have been known to pass through here, a quintessential destination for classic Spanish cuisine and fresh fish. Today it’s social, casual, hip and the right amount of scene-y. I love going on Sunday evenings at 6 p.m. or so and lingering over a drink, then dinner, then drinks with friends on the outdoor terrace. A must try: the jamon con pan y tomate, which is delicious enough that you’ll probably have fodder for cocktail hour chatter to last you months. It’s a bit pricey for simple fare, but everything is cooked and seasoned just perfectly.

Seafood, paella and tapas take the spotlight at this terrace-set restaurant in the old-fashioned and charming Hotel Bendinat. There’s live jazz in the evenings on the weekends. If you want a spot that feels worlds away from the well trampled, scenester-crowded path, book a table here. Only a 15-minute drive from Palma.

This spot has quickly become a staple for stylish dining and cocktails at sunset. With its beachside boho vibe and swarms of international beauties, it doesn’t really matter that the food, frankly, isn’t fantastic. The all-white and well-designed location is smack on the sea with lovely views. Note that it’s not at its parent property the Puro Hotel, which is a restored 14th-century palace in town. The air of relaxed funky chicness makes everyone want to linger all night (unless they plan to come back early in the morning for Puro’s open-air yoga classes!).

This is a little-known gem; it doesn’t have a Website, so you’ll have to trust me on this one! Take the scenic mountain and coast road from Andratx—one of the most beautiful anywhere in the world. |

I rate Virtual Beach Club very highly for comfort, quality of beach, sea views, food, and staff. Call ahead to reserve for lunch and ask if someone can come meet you on the street to secure a parking spot, otherwise it may difficult. They have a bistro on the terrace serving a tea, juices, cocktails, sandwhiches and other casual fare. For a slightly more formal meal, dine on lobster, fresh seafood, salads and Mallorcan- and French-inspired cuisine at the club’s restaurant, La Solana.

"For traditional Mallorcan fare we really love La Fonda in a historic townhouse on the main square of Pollença," says Liz Barratt-Brown. "They serve local lamb and goat, and tumbet, a local specialty that’s like a Napoleon of summer veggies, zucchini, eggplant and red pepper, layered and baked with tomato sauce. The restaurant is adorable, casual and has outdoor seating on the square. One of my favorite dishes is an amazing aroz negro, rice paella with squid and black ink." |
