Boston Harbor Hotel
Waterfront, Boston, Massachusetts, United States
I recently stayed at this timeless Bostonian, dominating the downtown waterfront in one of the most historical parts of the city. The 230 newly renovated rooms won’t win any design awards, but they’re comfortable and spacious, with deep red, blue and gray furnishings, low lighting and a classic feel—think marble, dark wood and dominant beds, while flat screen TVs and internet bring them into the 21st century. Watch the boats in the harbor from any of the three restaurants, whether you’re tucking into Daniel Bruce’s seasonal selection at Meritage, or holding your very own ‘Boston Tea Party’ in the Intrigue Café. Or, in true old-school Bostonian style, enjoy a cigar and a selection of fine scotches at the Rowes Wharf Bar. If you’d rather end the day with something a little less toxic—but no less indulgent—head to the simple, no frills spa and well-equipped gym with lap pool. Steps from the financial district and the sights, this is a good bet for business trippers or those who prefer traditional to topical.
Room rates from $445.
