We sourced the products below over the past 6 months through interviewing Suzanne’s gal pals and top-notch facialists. The results make for a quick “hit list” so you can get on with what you do for a living and let the professionals and our test audience lead you right to what we hope you’ll discover as a new accessory in your bathroom and travel kit! Great products, at fair price points for their effects. Most are gender neutral; guys, don’t make the mistake of thinking that only we women need whatever help in a bottle we can get! All products are found with relative ease, depending where in the world you live. Each company has it’s own website to order direct.
Lather yourself fresh:
Environ Sebu Face Wash gives you that squeaky-clean feel and helps combat pimples; their cleanser is super too. Ole Henriksen on the Go Cleanser is best for oily skin and smells great. Or try Neutrogena Oil-Free Acne Wash – a $5 bargain that really works! Philosophy Purity Made Simple Cleanser and Dr. Hauschka Cleansing Cream are great for sensitive skin. For a cleanser and exfoliator in one try the Lemon Peel Cleanser from Natural Organic Edible Cosmetics; if you have large pores their Natural White Tea Toner usually helps to minimize them. Use Kiehls Calendula Herbal Extract Alcohol-Free Toner for that tightening feel. If you’re after chic n’ natural products, try CARE by Stella McCartney – 100% organic; 100% effective. Plus it comes in packaging as stylish as her clothing range. As Lorraine on behalf of CARE told us - ‘it’s a responsible, natural product, with a sexiness in its packaging, smell and texture.” – Love the Gentle Cleansing Milk and Toning Floral Water. For a real treat for the senses, Amanda Lacey’s Cleansing Pomade leaves your skin feeling hydrated unlike many cleansers… and her Persian Rose Water is a morning freshener to which I’ve recently become addicted…
Renew & Revive:
Kiehls Pineapple Papaya Scrub with small pieces of pineapple and papaya fruit enzymes that help remove dead skin cells – really! Ole Henriksen New Beginning Scrub - a favorite of many Los Angeles skincare specialists - is a good bet for “problem skin”, while Dr Brandt Microdermabrasion is great at tightening mature skin. For a smooth bod, scrub yourself down with Fresh Brown Sugar Body Polish. For a winter boost I rate Forest Essentials natural earthy smelling face oils and Rose Body Oil (the scent lingers all day).
The mask that masks impurities:
Amanda Lacey Restoring Mandarin Mask soothes and calms reactive skin; boosts skin’s elasticity. Kiehls Algae Mask hydrates your skin in harsh weather and Origins Mask Clear Improvement unclogs pores and draws out impurities deep down. Chantecaille Biodynamic Lifting Mask targets wrinkles, acne, and irritation.
Keep your face safe and hydrated and…
Z01 Facial Daywear Moisturizing Lotion with SPF 30+ is quality protection on-the-go. For very dry skin try Dr. Hauschka Rose Day Cream which smells gorgeous and leaves your skin supple all day even with the central heating on! To protect yourself from the elements, try Yu-Be Skin Care Cream – I use it before a run in the park when temps are below 12 C. Mario Badescu Seaweed Night Cream has been a favorite for 10+ years. If your skin is irritated or blemished Evenescence Clarifying Lotion is a soother match for you. To regenerate and plump up your skin try Elemis Pro-Collagen Oxygenating Night Cream; smells and feels great, and is smoothing and oxygenating. Dr Brandt Poreless Moisturizer gives a matte finish and leaves skin radiant – I love it after a swim or light workout. For hydrated hair and scalp I use Espa Pink Scalp and Hair Mud. Listen up guys and gals; the trick with winter cold and indoor heating (in case you’ve not heard it before), unless you are “spotty”: Moisturize, moisturize, moisturize. Layer moisturizers with good quality facial oils if your skin is particularly dry. You’ll face will thank you for this.
Reawaken your youth dahlink!
ZO1 Vitamin A Serum rejuvenates – truly it does - dull skin. For sensitive skin try the Leaf and Rusher Active Serum. Environ’s Vitamin A and C Serums are also very effective; I was tipped off by expert facialist Linda from Paul Edmonds London. If you have skin that has lost its elasticity, Dr. Sebagh Serum Repair will boost your collagen and help ease fine lines (but not overnight… don’t be fooled). Head facialist at the Four Seasons NYC, Suk Manicelli, also recommends Valmont Elixir des Glaciers Votre Visage – a real wrinkle-killer. For results without the huge price tag, try Roc Retinol Correxion Deep Wrinkle Night Cream.
Spot Sticks – Don’t leave home without it…
For stubborn spots that are oh-so-obnoxious try Kiehls Blue Herbal Spot Treatment, Ole Henriksen Roll on Blemish Attack, and DYNA spot treatment by Eve Lom. We love them all and found different skin types take to one or the other – all effectual. The Zeno Pimple Machine uses heat to target the with skin circulation and energy flow promoting clearer looking skin. We thought this was a hoax until we saw Suzanne’s spot go from red to white - overnight.
Tired eyes:
Elemis Pro Collagen Eye Renewal and Trilogy Eye Contour give a firmer appearance and contain some great anti-aging ingredients that every dermatologist recommends. To combat dark circles, fatigue and puffiness try Kiehls Eye Alert which our male friends especially liked. Valmont’s Elixir des Glaciers Vos Yeux has great anti-shadow and anti-puffiness action - yes please! Ole Henriksen Fresh Start Eye Cream is for contact wearers and sensitive eyes. Elemis Pro-Collagen Eye Renewal has a nice dewey feel, helping moisturize those wrinkles and fine lines away.
Youthful Hands:
We all know hands are a dead give-away, so make yours deceptively youthful with L’Occitane Shea Butter Hand Cream and Kiehls Ultimate Strength Hand Salve - lifesavers for chapped and dry hands. Eve Lom Cuticle Cream promotes healthy strong nails and protects the cuticles – it smells nice too!
Heavenly Feet:
Your tired & over-worked, and over-walked feet will soak up Fitness Foot Balm from Dr. Hauschka, and love you for Barielle Total Foot Care Cream.
Kissable…
Dr. Hauschka Lip Care – niiice… and Eve Lom Kiss Mix - yummy (I give it to my boyfriend by putting it on first and then kissing it onto him! *be aware not to use too much or your lips will stop creating their own moisture) make lips soft, smooth, and a must have for any hand bag (chic looking small white tub). Trilogy Lip Treatment protects, hydrates and gives your lips a fresh plump look. For the ultimate fast acting healing effect for dry, chapped lips try Dr. Lipp.
Travel Kits:
The right sizes for a long-weekend and smartly packaged: Leaf & Rusher Traveler and Dr. Hauschka Daily Face Care Kit contain all your facial essentials, and are light enough to fit into your small travel bag.
And… avoid these over-hyped products; not worth the cash…
Cle de Peau Beaute Eye Contour Anti-Wrinkle Balm; La Prairie Skin Caviar Luxe Cream; ReVive Intensive Volumizing Serum; Chanel Sublimage Eye cream.
