Grand Resort Lagonissi

Located on a peninsula 25 miles south of Athens, this resort is a favorite of the Mediteranean jet-set. Privacy and comfort is the raison d'etre here, with a choice of four areas of accommodation, or “clubs” totalling 273 rooms, suites and bungalows. Decor is in muted tones, and amenities depend on the level of room you choose; if you're a gym bunny, you can have your own private workout room in a deluxe suite in the “Sports Club”. If you're feeling like splashing out, the Royal Suite is one of the world's most expensive hotel rooms in the world, at $25,639 a night (but this does include pianist, chef, and personal trainer). The resort is full of activities, from sports to the lavish spa, and you're spoiled for choice when dining; everything from Mediterranean, to Japanese, to Polynesian—plus low fat options and a healthy kids menu. Serious R&R overlooking the Aegean sea, although the isolated location means not great if you're planning on heading out of the resort during your stay. Instead, hire a private yacht for a escapist day on the water.
Room rates from €428.
