A lovely spot with old world charm and a freshness in their approach. Impeccable and friendly service in a 19th century period setting. There are 46 rooms, but choose wisely… make sure to ask for one with a newly renovated bathroom… and the 21 deluxe rooms may be more expensive but definitely worth the price. The contemporary Spa is the main draw here, “Samas” (a Gaelic word meaning Indulgence of the senses); opening in 2008 is their new 25 m pool, 18 residential condos, and an expanded fitness center. They offer a number of great retreats (check the website for details). 27 miles from Kerry International Airport, 60 miles from Cork; worth the trip if you like this type of setting. June through August offers the best weather, but prices and crowd levels are high - try May and September instead. I have not been but go by the reputation: Spafinder ranks it the top spa in Ireland, Conde Nast: the #2 hotel spa in Europe. Room rates: 173-403 Euros per person.
