Maroma Spa and Resort
Riviera Maya, Mexico
After Hurricane Wilma did major damage in the Riviera Maya area, the Maroma Spa and Resort has re-opened after some fabulous enhancements. The beach is famous for sea turtles, who sometimes nest rght in front of the resort! I stayed here recently, and highly recommend room no. 57 - right at the edge of the beach, in the new area - the only area I recommend staying on the property as it is just gorgeous. Alternatively, for a more private experience, stay in room no. 40; one of two hacienda-style villas slightly apart from the main hotel. For a suite, you must book the new Sian Nah Suite which, overlooks the ocean and has a private pool. I was truly truly impressed with their gorgeous Zen-like newly created massage and spa temple complete with wellness rooms, a fab relaxation area and watsu pool. Ahhh… great break from the real world. Visit when Cyndi Lee, founder of Om Yoga in New York, is running her yoga retreats (October 24-26, December 12-16 2007) One word of warning only here - the food is not “quite there”. Rooms from $480; Suites from $1,035 per night, including breakfast, airport transportation and one snorkelling trip.
