Antiche Carampane, nr Rialto Bridge
Very local, hard to find but well worth the search… You eat what they have fresh that morning- usually the most gorgeous seafood you can imagine…try the spaghetti with spicy seafood sauce. Possibly the best food in Venice!

Cip’s Club, Guidecca Island
Elegant but with an informal buzz. Take the hotel’s private power boat over to the Isola della Giudecca, and bag a table on the side of terrace for one of the best views of St Mark’s Square. The menu focuses on tasty Venetian fare. Expensive but a real must-dine.

Osteria di Santa Marina, Campo Santa Marina
A modern, fresh approach to Venetian food. You’ll be blown away by their “beautifully presented imaginative combinations” (Zagat) and wonderful seafood. Be sure to try the marinated raw fish. Sit on the terrace for candlelit dining.

La Furatola, Dorsudoro
Off the beaten-track tourist-free gem. This great fish restaurant hidden in the backstreets of Dorsoduro is charmingly rustic. Order the spaghetti with mantis prawns, soft shelled crabs, cuttle fish and amazing antipasti. Don’t forget to finish with a Scroppino- a delicious but lethal liquid lemon sorbet spiked with vodka. Go home happy.
