Day Spa: Spa Anne Fontaine

You wouldn't know from her storefront on the ultra-chic rue Saint-Honoré that there is a small spa discreetly tucked away beneath Anne Fontaine's white shirt mecca. Open only since mid-2007, the space was designed by none other than Andrée Putman, the grande dame of minimalist and modern interior design—and of course it's the perfect complement to Fontaine's simple, white (and some black) wardrobe staples. Although she lives in France, the fashion designer originally hails from Brazil and has a love of natural materials; many of the furnishings used to decorate the spa, as well as the products and treatments on the menu, are inspired by her homeland—especially the Amazon (try the bamboo stick massage!) Her new skincare line incorporates silk and cotton fibers, and water is a major theme in the calming, cocoon like space full of bluish gray stone tiles and soothing blue lighting; although it's small, there is a hammam and a hot tub. Other unusual therapies are the “Massage Vaudou,” in which dance-like movements are used, or the “Silk Dream,” during which you'll be wrapped in a silk sheet and kneaded. New Yorkers will be happy to know that Fontaine plans to open her second spa in 2009 at her US flagship on Madison Avenue.

Don't leave (you won't want to!) without trying Robin's homemade waffles.
