Les Sources

Bordeaux-Martillac, France

I don’t know about “Vinotherapy”, but this relatively small destination spa and resort is in a gorgeous area to base yourself and indulge in both amazing local cuisine and special treatments. Picture yourself as a French aristocrat, in this replica château, or one of the two petite maisons. The L’ile aux Oiseaux is the top suite - perched on stilts over a small pond - sounds idyllic! The hotel is designed for calm and serenity; outdoor decks, and indoor relaxation areas are all close to the mineral fed pool area with water piped up from a hot spring 1,770 ft underground.
The hotel and spa are run by sisters Alice and Mathilde who developed the Caudalie beauty line. Its the grapeseeds that are the secret; the little pips, discarded for centuries by the wine-making community, are an anti-aging goldmine. They have been transformed into a patented formula, which is absorbed much more effectively by the skin than treatments using the raw ingredients. These grapes are so important, that the pestle and mortar ha become the emblem of Caudalie worldwide. It’s heaven for fans of anti-oxidants (and who isn’t?!). The three treatments on offer use products made from different parts of the grapes and vines, harnessing their skin firming and smoothing qualities - we always said wine was good for you! I have not been yet; but the industry reputation is stellar. Thought you may like to put it on your ‘list’ for autumn long weekends as the folliage is spectacular in this region. Sporty and tranquil is the kind of weekend you’d have here. Go April through August when its not as busy but the weather is still good, and stay in room Le Claret, with a spa view.
